Have an Eco-Adventure with the Heard’s Paddle Program

Learn about the aquatic ecosystem you are paddling, its amazing diversity in vegetation and wildlife, while learning about the history and basics of wetland ecology. No experience is necessary for any of these programs. All participants will be given an introduction to canoeing that includes basic strokes, boat safety, and flat water maneuvers. All canoe & safety equipment provided. Each canoe holds up to 3 people. Heard Natural Science Museum Water Guides provide leadership for all programs and are American Canoe Association Certified Instructors, Red Cross First Aid and US Coast Guard Boater Safety trained, and Leave No Trace Trainers.


 

3 Hour Wetland Canoe Trails

$32 members | $42 non-members


Experience the amazing diversity in wetland vegetation and wildlife while learning about the history and basics of wetland ecology. After a safety and canoeing introduction, spend about 40 minutes on a guided trail around the Heard wetlands, followed by some free paddle time to explore on your own. Minimum Age: 7 years*

3 Hour Moonlight Wetland Canoe Trails

$35 members | $45 non-members


Things are different at Night! Come experience our wetland canoe trail in the evening and see a whole new world. Discover how animals use this aquatic ecosystem at night and share about the amazing diversity in
wetland vegetation and wildlife. After a safety and canoeing introduction, spend about 40 minutes on a guided trail around the wetlands, followed by some free paddle time to explore on your own. Minimum Age: 12 years*

November 20, 2010 | 6:30-9:30pm
February 19, 2011 | 7-10pm

Brazos River Canoe Trips

$250 members | $300 non-members


Spend two days paddling and one night camping as your guides share about the flora, fauna and geology of this scenic river. Paddling equipment and meals included. See website for more info. Minimum Age: 12 years *

October 15-17, 2010
   --  Friday night, Oct 15: Equipment check and drop off and safety meeting at the Heard SRC building
   --  Saturday, Oct 16: Depart the Heard at 8am

   --  Sunday, Oct 17: Return to the Heard at 8pm

May 6-8, 2011
    --  Friday night, May 6: Equipment check and drop off and safety meeting at the Heard SRC building
    --  Saturday, May 7: Depart the Heard at 8am

    --  Sunday, May 8: Return to the Heard at 8pm

Girls Get Away!

Leave No Trace Camping & Paddling
$125 members | $150 non-members

Earn a Leave No Trace Awareness Certificate while camping and
paddling on this girls only adventure on the Heard Sanctuary. Meals, snacks and paddling equipment provided. Bring your own tent, sleeping bag & personal items. See website for more info. Minimum age: 7 years*


Program Dates:
March 18-19, 2011: Start at 3pm on Friday and end at 3pm on Saturday
May 20-21, 2011: Start at 3pm on Friday and end at 3pm on Saturday

*Participants under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
