Living Lab

Kids at the Heard Museum Entering the room, you are struck by one of the oddest scientific laboratories ever created. All the usual gear is there of course—work benches, microscopes, thermometers, scales, computers, specimens and even a light box for viewing X-rays. But the trees growing in the middle of the room are definitely not ordinary. And why is there no ceiling?

The Living Lab is a fantasy science laboratory within a forest setting and allows people of all ages to explore the natural sciences including biology, ecology and geology and invites a better understanding of The Heard's most valuable asset, the Heard Wildlife Sanctuary. The room is complete with scientific instruments that allow guests to manipulate, to measure and to observe many specimens and to answer scientific questions in a fun and interactive fashion. The Living Lab will have three windows to the world, each provides a glimpse into the major ecosystems found at The Heard.
