- * Because “Take a Hike” is a fundraiser, no refunds will be offered and the event will take place rain or shine.
- ** Please note: To receive the special discounted price of $40 for a Family of 3 or more, the following restrictions will apply. A “family” is defined as no more than 2 adults registering at the same time with up to four children ages 3-17 (Two and under are always free). Additional children registered after the 4-child limit (ages 3-17) will be charged the regular $5 fee. Each adult after the initial two registered will be charged the regular $20 adult fee.
- There is also a possibility that many guests will have to park some distance from our main entrance. There is a drop-off circle available in our native plant garden for your convenience.
- While the Heard’s indoor exhibits are wheelchair/walker accessible, at this time, our trails are not, as they feature a natural surface and are not paved. Umbrella strollers are also not recommended.
- Take a Hike is a special fundraising event for not only the Heard, but the Volunteer McKinney Center and the partner organizations listed on this web page. Therefore, this event does require separate admission fees apart from our regular admission. No free admission passes will be accepted.
- Please dress appropriately as most activities are outside and require lots of walking.
- Registered hikers for this event are not required to hike at a specific time. Rather, this event is designed as a festival where participants can enjoy their hike at their leisure along with all the special activities.
- Besides the complimentary continental breakfast included with this event, food items such as corn dogs, chips, candy, water and sodas will be available for purchase at the Heard concession stand. Guests are also welcome to bring in picnic lunches.
- This event will proceed rain or shine. However, if we experience steady rain or storms, many of our activities will be moved inside and activities such as the bounce house, petting zoo, Easter Egg hunt, and canoe demonstrations may be cancelled. Please continue to check our website for up-to-date information.
