Heard Institute Course Descriptions

The Heard Institute

The Heard Institute is a training program that seeks to promote awareness, understanding, and respect of our natural world. We train volunteers in the many facets of Natural Science so that they may share that love of nature with the many guests that visit the museum year round.

 

The Heard Institute, Brings people and nature together by:

  • Fostering an appreciation and respect for the natural world through meaningful educational experiences
  • Promoting ecological stewardship
  • Increasing scientific literacy
  • Service as a resource to our community

Trail Guide Training Course

 

  • Saturday September 4th - Trail Guide Orientation 9-12
  • Friday Sept. 10th or Saturday Sept. 11th - Hoot Owl and Laughlin Loop Trail Training 9-2pm
  • Friday Sept 17th or Saturday Sept. 18th - Blue Stem and Wood Duck Trail Training 9-2pm
  • Friday Sept 24th or Saturday Sept. 25th - Cedar Break Loop Trail Training and review 9-2pm

 

Volunteers coming for training must wear long pants, closed toed shoes, and bring their lunch and a bottle of water. Trainees may also want to bring sunscreen, a hat, and bug repellent. Most of these training sessions will be conducted outside.
