Outreach Programs

Let us bring the Heard to your classroom, organization, or group meeting.

The Heard Museum offers various on-campus outreach opportunities to bring the learning to you! Check out our list of turnkey programs below or let us design a program just for you!

Groups are required to make outreach program requests at least 2 weeks in advance. However, we may be able to accommodate groups smaller than 25 up to 1 week prior depending on availability.

About Our Programs

All programs for school groups can be TEKS aligned. Classroom and Information Table programs are hands-on and designed to allow students to experience learning in an interactive way using museum resources.

Topics

This item is tied to a CSS class (.accordion-closed) that ensures that no accordion items are expanded by default.

Discover the fascinating world of animals with our Live Animal Ambassadors program. Choose 2-3 animals from our selection—reptiles, mammals, or invertebrates—for an interactive learning experience tailored to your group. Depending on group size (less than 30 participants), there may be opportunities for appropriate hands-on interaction. Additionally, we can bring along animal-related specimens such as bones, pelts, and other artifacts to enrich the learning experience.

Dive into the intricate connections of nature with our Food Web program, designed for a 30-60 minute exploration. This engaging classroom visit features a dynamic food web game and introduces live animal ambassadors, focusing on the food webs of wetland or Blackland Prairie ecosystems. Tailored to your group’s age, this program brings the concept of food webs to life.

Explore the remarkable survival strategies and characteristics of animals with our Adaptations program, suitable for all ages. This classroom visit highlights the diversity of animal adaptations through interactive discussions and showcases both native animals and our animal ambassadors. Hands-on items such as pelts, feathers, and bones may also be included to enrich the learning experience.

Delve into the world of animal science with our adaptable Animal Ologies program. Whether you’re interested in ornithology, herpetology, or another animal-related field, we offer engaging activities and interactive materials tailored to various age groups. Live animal ambassadors can be included based on the subject and your request.

Uncover the wonders of geology with our Rocks, Rocks, Rocks! program, suitable for all ages. We’ll bring a diverse collection of rocks and explore their elements. Depending on the age group, activities may include games, erosion demonstrations, and more to make learning about rocks both fun and educational.

Presentations

Perfect for large groups or auditorium settings, libraries, community center gatherings, and more! Presentations may include live animals and/or items from the museum’s collections and are ideal for strengthening themes taught in class or for celebrating nature at your next event.
